Chances are, if you live in the area and you have driven past the farm within the last week, you will have noticed a pop-up awning on the front lawn shading our stone lions. If that awning and the two lovely people working diligently beneath it has left you wondering what the heck is going on, we are excited to share that it is a restoration in process.
That’s right, the Stone Lions, or rather the Stone Lionesses, that stand in front of the house are getting a makeover.
The Williamstown Art Conservation Center has undertaken the task, and we couldn’t be more delighted. This endeavor was made possible by our small fund raiser this winter, plus matching grants, and other funding. (To those of you who donated for Christmas Trees this past winter, the Lionesses thank you!)
The whole restoration activity should take about three weeks, so we are patiently waiting. However, we can already see the progress and how beautiful these sculptures must have been back in their day. We’d love to know more about them. We have heard a few stories and anecdotes about how they ended up here, but we would be so happy to fill in the gaps and now more about the artist and the process. If you have a story about the Stone Lions reach out to us. We’d love to hear it.

Well, whoever did the restoration did a lousy job. Arnold Prince would be very sad to see what was done to his beautiful lionesses. Why didn't you contact the Rhode Island School of Design? Or, even call the Potvins?
I happened to observe Arnold create these beautiful statues. They were lions about to fight each other. Now, their legs are shaped like logs. Horrible work.
